There is something endlessly fascinating about the original Planet of the Apes from 1968, and particularly the ending taking place within the Forbidden Zone and revealing what remains one of the most iconic moments in Hollywood history: the reveal of the Statue of Liberty’s remains, with Charlton Heston as astronaut George Taylor collapsing before it.
If you’re interested in a a closer look at the locations used for the film (especially when you consider that with shrinking budgets on each subsequent film in the original cycle of movies, such things became more and more of a rarity), there are a pair of intriguing YouTube videos which takes us there.
The first (above) is purely visual, and it doesn’t limit itself to the ending sequence, instead visiting other locations that were used for not only the Forbidden Zone, but Ape City as well.
The second (below) has a host who takes us around the locations that were utilized for the final section of the film, offering details about the making of the movie (though he does refer to the star as “Charleston” Heston).
