He’s the A-Hole: Kirk Acevedo Reflects on ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ and More

In Dawn of the Planet of the Apesi, actor Kirk Acevedo portrayed the human Carter, who observed of himself, “I’m the asshole” (which he was) in his effort to protect his team from Caesar’s apes, who he did not trust at all. In an episode of the YouTube video series Traversing the Stars, he discusses the film, his recent role in season three of Picard and much more.

Acevedo was born on November 27, 1971, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were of Puerto Rican descent, and he grew up in a bilingual household. Acevedo was the youngest of three siblings, and he was raised in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn.

As a child, Acevedo was interested in acting and performing. He attended LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan, where he honed his skills as an actor. After high school, he attended SUNY Purchase, where he studied acting and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After graduation, Acevedo began his acting career in theater, performing in various off-Broadway productions. He made his film debut in 1996 with a small role in The Sunshine Boys. The following year, he landed his breakthrough role in the HBO prison drama series Oz. On that show, he played the character of Miguel Alvarez, a Latino prisoner who becomes a key player in the drug trade within the prison. His performance in the show was highly acclaimed, and it earned him a nomination for the ALMA Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

Acevedo continued to make a name for himself on television, appearing in numerous hit TV shows, including Law & Order, NYPD Blue, CSI: Miami, Cold Case, Fringe, and Person of Interest. In each of these shows, Acevedo showcased his versatility as an actor, playing a wide range of characters and displaying his range and depth.

One of Acevedo’s most notable roles was in the critically acclaimed miniseries Band of Brothers, which followed the true story of a group of soldiers during World War II. Acevedo played Staff Sergeant Joseph Toye, a soldier who served in the 101st Airborne Division. His performance in the show was highly praised, and it further cemented his status as a talented and versatile actor.

In addition to his successful television career, Acevedo has also appeared in numerous films. He had a supporting role in the 2006 film The Thin Red Line, which was directed by Terrence Malick. He also appeared in the science fiction film Invincible and the thriller Brooklyn’s Finest.

One of Acevedo’s most notable film roles was, of course, in the 2014 blockbuster hit Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He played Carver, a human who becomes embroiled in the conflict between humans and intelligent apes. His performance in the film was highly praised, and it helped to further establish him as a talented and versatile actor in Hollywood.

Kirk Acevedo is a private person and has not disclosed much information about his personal life. However, it is known that he is married to Kiersten Warren, an actress and producer. The couple has two children together.

Acevedo is also an advocate for mental health awareness and has been open about his own struggles with anxiety and depression. He has spoken publicly about his experiences and has encouraged others to seek help and support if they are struggling with mental health issues.
